Introduction of My Blog

What to expect on my blog?

Be yourself; Everyone else is already taken.

— Oscar Wilde.

I have decided to start writing a blog because I love writing, I don’t have a lot of time to write large texts, so this is a way I can share my passion with others and write for a purpose that other people can enjoy, without an expectation of a 7000 word essay. Hahaha. This blog is going to be all things creative. Photography, short stories and book reviews/recommendations. In my opinion, you can’t work all of the time, which is hard for me to give myself free time away from work, so finding a passion that takes you away from these demanding tasks in daily life but keeps you busy is a great way to wind down after a long day. I’m not sure when I’ll be posting or how often but I do know that when I do post it will be work that I spent time working on. Thanks for reading. K.

2021 Quarterly Book Wrap up

  • All this Time by Mikki Daughtry and Rachael Lippincott – this was such a good book, it kept me guessing right till the very end. The characters are exquisite and I was so invested in their love story but also their personal life stories. Seperate as well together.
  • Her Royal Highness by Rachel Hawkins (Re-read)
  • A Streetcar named Desire by Tennessee Williams
  • A Study in Scarlet by Sir Arthur Conan-Doyle
  • Breathless by Jennifer Niven – Such a good book, is really gripping and you fall in love with the characters however in my opinion the ending is a little flat. It is almost expected and nothing shocked me at the end which I understand is a trope of thrillers and not usually romances but I felt like I couldnt give it any more than 3 stars.

*Review*The Flatshare*

The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary

Rating: 3 out of 5.

This romance novel starts with Tiffy needing a place to stay and Leon needs some more money. So their solution is for Leon to use the one-bed flat while Tiffy is at work during the day and Tiffy uses the flat the rest of the time. There is obsessive ex-boyfriends and imprisoned brothers and the fact that Tiffy and Leon haven’t met.

The beginning of this novel is very captivating and it draws you in to find out what happens and keeps you as the reader asking the question why. The book brings you so much joy and there are many twists and turns during this novel which keeps it interesting however… the ending. In my opinion the ending is a bit of a let down, it seems we have invested so much into these characters and then the ending is very rushed and they have a happily ever after but it’s not a bad book its just the ending is predictable.

*Comparison*All The Bright Places*

All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven

All the Bright Places was originally a book written by Jennifer Niven and then got transformed into a Netflix film. This post is comparing the book and the film. This is not a full comparison it is just a comparison of the main similarities and differences throughout both.

In the beginning of the book Violet Markey meets Theodore Finch on the top of a bell tower where Violet is contemplating jumping off the tower and Finch shows her the brighter side which then calms her down. However in the film Violet is on the bride where her sister died during a car accident and Finch comes running past and stops and calms her down. In my opinion the bridge has more value of Violets emotions as it’s a significant place to Violets emotions.

In the book it is made explicitly clear that Violet is a writer whereas in the film its only implied by Violets role of writing about the places that they visit for the school project.

Following the last difference, a similarity is that all the places that Violet and Finch visit for the school project are the same.

In the book Ryan plays a much bigger role than in the film, by being named and actively showing that Violet and him used to date before her sister died whereas in the film he is shown having a conversation with her at a party but it’s not explicitly told who he is.

However even after all of these differences the ending is the same in the book and the film except that the book is a bit more detailed than the film.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Sregrepsa

Laughter and Light

Fighting and my fists grow tight

Becoming so clear you have to stop

The flow of blood is becoming hot

My head is going round and round

All I can hear is a bunch of muffled sounds

I don’t want to have a meltdown

All I can do is howl

and hope somebody hears my plea

As I am ready to flea

I wish people could understand

But it’s not as easy as I planned

Crashing into the ground with a ugh

Being pulled up through a hug

Coming back to Earth

Like a re-birth

*Review*A Kiss in the Dark*

A Kiss in the Dark by Gina Ciocca

This book is a YA contemporary romance novel. After Macy gets kissed by a unknown man when there is a power cut at a high school football game, she has to try to find the mystery man behind the mysterious kiss. As Macy gets close to finding out her mystery man who kissed her she starts to worry that he might not be the same person as the man who is stealing her heart. There are 3 possible men (Noah, Ben and Joel) , who kissed Macy on the night of the football match and who has she fallen in love with?

About half way through this novel Ciocca started making us think that the mystery kisser was one person however at the end there is a massive plot twist which is completely unexpected and we end up following multiple romances that sort of interlink with each other through this novel. I thought it would be quite difficult to keep up with the amount of information that makes the book easier to understand but the way it was written it was actually relatively easy.

I gave this novel 5 stars out of 5 stars which was mainly based on the ending. The ending made the novel, without it I don’t think I would have even given it 3 stars. A lot changes and I didn’t know how I felt about the ending because I thought I already knew what was going to happen and it took me completely off guard. However I have grown to really love the ending.

*Review*The Silent Patient*

The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

This book is a psychological thriller/mystery. It was quite fast paced and it was broken up into the point of view of Theo Faber (the forensic psychotherapist) and Alicia Berenson’s diary of the days before the murder of her husband, Gabriel Berenson. Gabriel was found by the police with a gunshot to the head and a gun lying next to Alicia, ever since that day Alicia hadn’t spoken a single word (she was the silent patient).

Theo Faber had a strong interest in Alicia and wanted to find out what would have possessed her to kill her own husband with no hatred for him. He wouldn’t stop until he found out what had happened and why she refused to talk.

There are many unexpected twists and turns throughout this novel and they have been written really well. Michaelides has put a few hints through the novel about the ending but not enough so I could predict the ending at all. The end of the book was very unexpected for me and it took me a while to process what ends up happening. It was an exceptional ending and I thought even though it was a thriller it wasn’t too anxiety heightening which I like in a thriller.

I gave this book 5 stars out of 5 stars purely for the psychological aspect and the twists and turns which you don’t expect when you first delve into this book. Everything is normal and then it switches and one event sparks a big event at the end. It was a very quick read, I personally read it in one day and it was so gripping I didn’t want to put it down. If you like a mystery with an element of a psychological thriller then read this book, it was one of my favourite books of 2019.
